Blu is the colour of victory this new year as we showcase the best Blu-ray players on the market today.

The Blu-ray vs HD-DVD format war is a tale that surely belongs in the grand annals of corporate warfare – incompatible corporate interests leading to the development of incompatible digital formats. The prize: becoming the sole delivery format for the US$42 billion-a-year home video market. As a result, two giant consortia locked horns bitterly in a protracted battle, rife with allegations of illicit payouts and last minute betrayals.

This month, the world’s biggest movie distributor Warner made the decision to go exclusive with Blu-ray, which will be effective in June 2008. While the HD-DVD camp has vowed to soldier on, Warner’s announcement gives Blu-ray a 70% share of the market and many analysts have proclaimed a victory for the Blu corner.

This is good news for the luxe tech fan, because it clears the way to safely purchase our next generation video players, without the fear of it being suddenly being unsupported. Yet while this particular war might be over, another is shaping up between physical delivery formats like Blu-ray vs electronic downloads.

That would however be left for another day, as we showcase the best Blu-Ray players available on the market today.
