Since its opening 18 years ago, Rockpool has consistently created waves in the gastronomic world. As the first fine dining restaurant in the historic suburbs of Rocks, it witnessed the area’s transformation into one of the city’s leading tourist attractions. Not one to rest on its laurels, Rockpool will be undergoing a $600,000 refurbishment next month in order to bring its loyal clientele a whole new dining experience. However, the Asian-influenced seafood creations that made this restaurant famous will still be on the menu.

Prominent Australian chef Neil Perry’s career reads like a fairy tale. His first big success came in October 1986, when his newly opened Blue Water Grill at Bondi Beach turned into an overnight sensation. He then went into business with his cousin Trish Richards and opened Rockpool in February 1989. Within six months, it was voted as Sydney’s best new restaurant in the Good Food Guide and since then, it has gone on to win various international awards. In addition to Rockpool in Sydney, Perry owns Rockpool Bar & Grill in Melbourne and Rockpool Consulting. The latter develops menus for Qantas Airways’ International First and Business Class travelers. Perry has also authored four recipe books and presents TV shows on Australia’s Lifestyle channel.

Signature Dishes

The Chef’s Tasting Menu showcases some of Rockpool’s best. Highlights include Sterling Caviar with Tuna Tartare and Ginger Jelly; Squid, Iberico Ham and Parsnip Salad with Nitro Black Pearls – Inspired by Heston Blumenthal; Stir Fried Lobster with Noodles and XO Sauce; and “Mandarin”.
