Making shoes by hand has become something of a forgotten art, simply because for the most part it is not always necessary to get that exact fit. Shoes are such necessary items that it could seem wasteful to spend so much on something so disposable, that inevitably becomes worn through, and ultimately, unloved.

But there is something so special about a handcrafted pair of shoes; a pair of shoes that will be truly comfortable on nobody else's feet; that was made from only the very best materials by the most qualified experts. It is this romantic ideal of so many people working on one item, your shoes, and not the other way round, that imbues them with so much emotion and intangible value. Given that it takes so many months to complete a bespoke pair of shoes, and that they will probably last a few decades, surely so trivial a thing such as money cannot compare?
