Shiadome
At the foot of the building is the Mandara Spa, the only one in Japan, bringing the fragrances, sights and sounds of
Indonesia into the capital. Separate men's and women's bath areas give an onsen feel, and guests are invited
to choose their oil before a Balinese, Thai, European or Hawaiian treatment.
Mandara Spa hydro facilities from Y2,625 (USD24) per visit; Balinese Massage 50 minutes Y14,700 (US$136)
ARMANI/SPA GINZA TOWER
You've got to stop off at the Armani building, even if you're not well-heeled enough to be doing anything but window
shop. Nine floors of design-tastic clothes, accessories, home wares, spa, Ristorante and Prive bar provide the wow-factor
of Armani.
A dark, sleek lift will whisk you to the 5th floor's shiny dark spa - Giorgio's first ever. The Armani Obsidian Ceremony,
featuring the mineral-rich regenerating Obsidian extracted from petrified lava, leads you via electric sliding doors
to the foot bath room, where Obsidian dust poured into the water magically heats it up, Jacuzzi-ing your feet. A gong
is standing by for a 'sound shower'. Then you'll be ushered by your Spa Master into the circular massage room dominated
by the Inversione Couch lying floor level. A flick of a switch and the masseuse can raise your feet or your head depending
on what the Fluidita massage requires. Some packages include a volcanic back mask, decolleté and facial
treatment. Products are the Giorgio Armani Crema Nera range used with hot and cold Obsidian stones. And the journey ends,
delightfully, with bamboo tea and an Armani make-up makeover.
The Armani Obsidian Ceremony 90 minutes Y45,000 (US$416); The Armani Ceremony 3 hours Y65,000 (US$600).
Look out for part two of Tokyo Extremes - where we cover Roppongi and Marunouchi
- in our next issue.
