Last issue, we presented the first part of our series, Asia's Top 20 Superyachts, covering the biggest luxury superyachts, from number 20 to number
11. As we noted previously, this list is based purely on size, meaning that size is the defining element of all the yachts featured here. Of course,
size is not the be-all-and-end-all of superyahcts. These behemoths come with impressive accessories that reflect the importance of content, not just
of form and scale. From helicopters to mini-submarines, these extras make the difference between unthinking indulgence and deliberate expansiveness.
For example, to leave the Asia-Pacific region for a moment, Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen's superyacht, Octopus, is a 452-footer but that’s
not what makes it special. Allen has two helicopters on his boat and an internal dock for a 66ft submarine to enter into position. As you might imagine,
security is a must and the veritable Asian paragon in this area is the State Yacht of Saudi Prince Abdul Aziz. It is rumored that this vessel is equipped
with an underwater surveillance system and surface-to-air missiles. As a bonus, the yacht also reportedly comes with a fully loaded hospital.
Just what does one do on such larger-than-life yachts? Well, the Al Salamah boasts a huge indoor pool with glass roof so you will never be
at the mercy of the weather. Chelsea owner, Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich goes a step further on his 375ft boat, Pelorus. His onboard
pool comes with artificial currents. The 325ft Christina O goes even further, with a swimming pool that turns into a dance floor while the 446ft Savarona uses
330 tons of marble to create a Turkish bath.
But let us not get ahead of ourselves and forget our priorities. First of all, the yacht has to be big enough to accommodate all these wonders. So,
what is the biggest luxury superyacht in Asia and what port does she call home? The answer is just a few pages away.
