Anastasia Brozler of Creative Perfumers
Also in London, Creative Perfumers adds
another dimension to their haute couture service. Founded by Anastasia Brozler,
the former head of perfume marketing in Europe for L’Oreál
and Estée Lauder, Creative Perfumers has a stable of sixteen to eighteen
handpicked master perfumers instead of just one in-house principal. Brozler
believes that the creation of a signature scent is a highly personal journey,
and it is important to choose a master perfumer that suits the language
and temperament of the client.
After undergoing an extensive series of interviews and exercises, you
are matched to one of the perfumers who will work for as long as it takes
to design and produce your perfect fragrance. The expert team comprises
of some of the best perfumers in the world, including Jacques Chabert,
creator of Guerlain’s Samsara and Chanel’s Cristalle, and who
takes on just one or two clients a year.
By functioning in this manner, the bespoke service benefits not just
the client but also the perfumer. Clients get a specially handcrafted scent
made by top-notch artisans who are free to do what they do best, without
being stifled by marketing guidelines and commercial limitations. The price?
Anything from $12000 to $70000, depending on the rarity and availability
of the chosen oils and ingredients.
If you are unable to find time to visit the perfume houses and boutiques,
there is also a studio located in California that offers custom perfumes
from a distance. For $900, Mandy Aftel of Aftelier fame
will mail you eighteen vials of varying chords and combinations for you
to explore. The chosen scents are then blended and the perfume is sent
back to you for a week of testing, before final adjustments to the formula
are made.
For many haute perfumeries, the recipe of a bespoke perfume is revealed
only to its maker, and its ownership can only be transferred by bequeathment.
There are few gifts that evoke your presence as emotionally in your absence,
and what could be a better gift for a mother to leave her daughter than
her own scent?
Having your own bespoke perfume is also a wonderful
way to assert your individuality and sophistication, and in a manner subtler
than flashy jewelery and other accessories exhibited externally. Only you
and the people you hold dear will fully appreciate the intricacies and
intimacies of your personalized scent, as well as the considerable endeavor
and savoire faire that went into its creation.
And most importantly, you can be quietly confident knowing the scent
you exude belongs to you and nobody else.
