THE STANDARD DOWNTOWN LA

550, S Flower St - 90071 LOS ANGELES (Area: Downtown LA) - United States

Trendy, cutting-edge design and plenty of unexpected twists sum up this design hotel set in the midst of bustling Los Angeles. On entering the building, guests are greeted with vast marble flooring and a 125-foot fuchsia "Omnibus" sofa by Vladimir Kagan, and a conceptual art installation by Jenny Holzer.

The vibe is smart and chic, the décor in monochrome offset against 1950s era architectural details. Textures alternate between smooth and crisp, from textured walls to padded leather upholstery. Color use is a specialty: in some rooms, canary yellow on yellow, in others red velvet chairs in crazy shapes against a backdrop of autumnal reds, oranges, browns. The rooms of this hotel all have elevated platform beds, mood lighting, oversized down pillows and duvets, complimentary WiFi, iPod docking, DVD players, plasma screen televisions and video games.

The whole experience leaves guests with a buzz which will lift them up on LA nights to the rooftop terrace, yet another innovative design from The Standard Downtown LA. The Rooftop Bar with its heated pool and skyscraper view is a must. The place is fitted with red Astroturf, vibrating waterbeds and a grassy knoll with sculptured topiary, making it truly unique. Nightly DJs, excellent food and special events have established the Rooftop Bar as one of the most impressive nightspots in Los Angeles.

The Restaurant is a California brasserie serving delicious 'New American' cuisine, which brings together the many flavors of the American melting pot. The vibrant interior features yellow booths and a diner-style counter, as well as an outdoor patio complete with a water fountain that spouts flames.

The Standard Downtown LA is centrally located near an abundance of cultural and business amenities including the Disney Concert Hall, MOCA and Chinatown.
