Designed for an UAE commission, Giancarlo Zema Design Group’s semi-submerged hotel resort looks like it could have been modeled after the underwater Gungan city of Otoh Gunga from the Star Wars movie. Nicknamed the Amphibious 1000, this resort comprises a land and sea section, hence the name, and fans out into the sea. But unlike the Palm Islands of Dubai, the layout takes the form of a concentric circular pattern.

Residential and office buildings, a marina and a tower with a restaurant perched on top of it, would make up the land section of this resort. On the waterfront, four semi-submerged hotels shaped like computer mice or teardrops offer sweeping views of the sea with their diagonal floor-to-ceiling windows.

Further out at sea, 80 floating suites in the shape of jellyfishes anchor themselves to what look like tentacles of land extending from the resort’s welcome area. Equally stunning and mind-boggling is the taxi service – a 20 m aluminium yacht with hydrogen engines and underwater vistas called the Trilobis – that transports guests between their Jellyfish suites.
