Audi will unveil the metroproject quattro, a concept hybrid car for the sub-compact segment at the Tokyo Motor Show, which runs from 24 October to 11 November. The car is powered by a 1.4 liter four-cylinder TFSI engine designed and race-track proven by Audi. 150 bhp of power is shelled out to the front wheels via the S-tronic Direct Shift Gearbox, achieving a maximum torque of 240 Nm.

However, a 41 bhp electric motor on the rear axle is capable of adding 200 Nm of torque into the equation during acceleration. This effectively transforms the metroproject from a front-wheel drive to a Quattro. The Audi metroproject quattro can run solely on electric power over short distances up to a range of 100 km, thanks to its “energy regeneration” technology. This converts braking energy released during deceleration back to electricity, so heat wastage is mimimized. In pure electric mode, the car can still reach speeds of more than 100 km/h. To “refuel”, simply plug in to any power socket. End of Article
