Though the strip of LED (light-emitting diode) daytime running lights on Audi’s high-end automobiles are not a new feature, and with instantaneously-responsive LEDs already used in the taillights of many mainstream cars, the LED headlamps on Audi’s fabulous R8 may not, at first, seem revolutionary. However, they are the biggest new advancement in lighting technology since the advent of xenon gas high-intensity discharge lights of the early 1990s. With lower power consumption, longer life, and enhanced brightness, LED-array headlamps will certainly make their way into many luxury cars in the near future, moreover because they allow greater freedom of design in a car’s front end.
