With
big, thirsty off-roaders attracting the collective ire of society at large, big, thirsty luxury saloons are probably next on
the list of automotive public enemies. With the economy rating of
Mercedes-Benz's flagship S65 AMG sedan being somewhere in the
mid-teens – that's both miles-per-gallon as well as liters per 100
km – Mercedes-Benz is planning to offer more fuel economy-minded new hybrid powered
S-Class saloons for executives who don't constantly feel the need
for speed. As announced before,
the new hybrid cars will run either a 3.5 liter petrol-electric motor
or a diesel-electric powerplant, rumored
to be of small displacement for better economy, which is purportedly
going to be between two and three times less thirsty than the V12
biturbo S65.
