Pioneering luxury mobile manufacturer Vertu has added a new titanium model called the Ascent Ti. Pushing the envelope still further from the original Ascent design, the new Ascent Ti has incorporated more performance sports car-inspired design features into its frame.

The Ascent Ti features larger display and comes equipped with a 3-megapixel camera, 4GB of user memory, twin side-ported hi-fi speakers, and 3G and Bluetooth connectivity. At the press launch for the phone, Vertu was keen to demonstrate the robustness of the phone by showcasing the punishing tests that were done in the development of the Ascent Ti. This included dropping from a pre-determined height, continuous rotation with collision against metal surfaces, and scorching by controlled flame, to name a few.

The Ascent Ti’s enhanced specifications and robustness created engineering challenges. Said Vertu’s chief engineer, Hutch, “To make the large sapphire crystal display, we had to change the manufacturing process. Using a Maliptinum die, we grow a large piece of sapphire at a melting point higher than 2,000 degrees. This sapphire is then molded into the correct shape. That’s quite tricky.” In addition, Vertu unveils its new service called Vertu Fortress – a wireless and extremely secure data-storage and synchronization service to backup and retrieve all your contacts in cases of emergency.
