Pair These Perfect Bites With Your Coffee During The Singapore Coffee Festival This Weekend

Singapore Coffee Festival has returned after making its debut just last year, with this year’s festival taking place at the Marina Bay Cruise Centre with more than 90 exhibitors. The festival, which will be kicking off this weekend from August 4 to 6, will showcase coffee connoisseurs, equipment distributors and cafes across two levels. Expect some pretty impressive local craftsmanship in specialty coffee, as you delve into the exhaustive range of brewed drinks, beans, gadgets and machines that are available for purchase. Of course, with so many to choose from and only so much coffee you can drink, we’ve selected some nifty bites from the festival to pair with your delicious cuppa:

A STRONG BLACK COLD BREW

1degreec Cold Brew Coffee, also known as 1℃ brings a stunning cold brew with hints of nuttiness – amplified, of course. Think of a really potent double shot espresso, with a Singaporean take. The bold coffee is made from a batch that steeps a special blend overnight for more than 16 hours. The perfect brew for those who like their coffee straight up classic with an authentic, no-nonsense flavour.

… WITH A LOCAL GELATO

Contrary to popular belief, decent gelato does exist in Singapore. Hand-crafted in their own gelato laboratory, Momolato’s fascinating gourmet ice-cream with local influences – think flavours like Milo Dinosaur (a chocolate malt overload), salted Gula Melaka or Kopi Peng (iced coffee with condensed milk).

A STUNNING CUP OF FLAT WHITE

Casual French café Symmetry is the place to go for that aromatic cup of flat white, complete with stunning latte art. The flat white is milky with a thin layer of microfoam, bringing that velvety taste with the richness of perfectly brewed coffee.

... WITH A MOUTH-WATERING SANDWICH

For delicious sandwiches, we recommend Park Bench Deli. Their ‘Cheese Steeak’ (not a typo) is a lip-smacking hoagie roll with sliced beef brisket, cheese sauce and caramelized onions, which goes perfectly with your velvety flat white. For Amy Van, editor of The Peak Gourmet & Travel and Savour, who normally orders her flat white without sugar, she finds the coffee goes well with vanilla cupcakes, blueberry muffins and sweet or flaky pastries. Van adds, “I used to drink lattes, which is a lot more milky. That goes nicely with rich chocolate cakes or chocolate tarts."

A SWEET WHITE CHOCOLATE MOCHA

Froth has a rather impressive menu with lobster bisque soup, an interesting Asian-fusion Hainanese Chicken Pasta and a Bourbon steak (a chef's recommendation). However, their beverage menu is decorated with a fine range of coffee, and we gravitate towards their White Chocolate Mocha for that sweet note.

… WITH SAVOURY WAFFLES

Waffles don’t always have to be sweet, and The Refinery’s Chicken-Not-So-Little Waffle proves it well. A chef’s recommendation reveals itself in stunning, homemade parmesan waffles, paired with juicy Paprika Fried Chicken drizzled with tomato sauce and charred red pepper. Bon appetit!
