Event: Art Exhibition: Espace Louis Vuitton Singapore Presents “Landscape Memories” - A Group Exhibition with Singaporean Artists
In a first major collaboration with top Singaporean artists, Espace Louis Vuitton Singapore is proud to present a group exhibition “Landscape Memories” featuring Singapore artists Donna Ong, Genevieve Chua, Jane Lee and Ng Joon Kiat.
Curated by Khim Ong, the exhibition will present works that explore ideas of the landscape, not as a projection of the natural world, or a representation of the prospect or refuge that nature offers, but as a repository of our memories of the world around us.
Donna Ong plays with everyday objects; her installation “Landscape Portraits (In a Beautiful Place Nearby)” transforms humble objects such as hardware, pins and needles into breathtaking views of cities, gardens and the underwater world, traversed through video installations.
Genevieve Chua investigates the interior landscapes that arise from our knowledge of our environment and our often ambiguous relationship to it. The series “She was here before” portray images of a forest at the base of a volcano.
The paintings of Jane Lee offer a different engagement with landscape, through materiality. Lee’s paintings do not directly reference landscape but instead a sensorial experience that is akin to one’s experience of space.
Having spent two years studying old maps of Singapore, Ng Joon Kiat’s recent paintings are an exploration of an imagined geography. The tactility of his paint surfaces suggests a terrain once was only demarcated by nature’s processes but now also bore traces of man-made borders.
“Landscape Memories” opens on April 25 and continues through till September 2013. It is the fifth exhibition to open at the unique space for artistic and cultural expression.
