Hollywood legend Charlie Chaplin is the star of luxury goods titan Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2009 Men's Collection. Artistic Director Marc Jacobs is clearly reaching for sublimated and effortless elegance in ensembles that suggest fragility. Menswear Studio Director Paul Helber keeps things light, with pale shades dominant.
The charcoal is especially fetching. Like Chaplin’s Little Tramp character, jackets are cut close to the body while pants are noticeably looser and pinch the line of the leg to suggest the famous bow-legged gait.
The entire collection is lined with Damier Graphite jacquard, a new signature for the house, in silk. Shoes feature elongated lasts and reduced heels, generally, and some feature detachable rubber straps. One pair in particular is perforated, enhancing the lightness of the entire collection. As for bags, totes and doctor’s bags in calf leather rule the season.
