Longtime champion of extreme luxury watches, Richard Mille revealed possibly the most distinctive watch of the SIHH in 2012 and an important tourbillon for the year overall. Although Jaeger-LeCoultre has the longest direct history with polo and Rolex has the most prominent relationship with the sport, Richard Mille has milled its own space.

Created for the wrist of Argentinean polo player Pablo Mac Donough, the RM053 is cased in the typical Richard Mille tonneau case – this time a combination of titanium and titanium carbide – but is truly more like a driver’s watch.

The display is at an angle to the 50mmX42.7mm case, with small seconds on the tourbillon carriage on the left and hours and minutes on the right. The movement is obviously also set an angle and, according to Richard Mille, is designed to weather the shocks and blows of a polo match.
