Presenting Salvatore's Legacy, World's Most Costly Cocktail

Calabrese preparing Salvatore's Legacy in front of a distinguished audience at The Playboy Club

He did it! After the disastrous bottle-breaking debacle a few months ago, legendary London mixologist Salvatore Calabrese has succeeded in concocting what is officially the world's most costly cocktail.

In the company of the city's top bartenders at The Playboy Club in Mayfair, Calabrese presented his latest masterpiece, which was overseen by an adjudicator from the Guinness World Records.

For £5,500 a glass, you'll get the most expensive and the oldest cocktail. Salvatore's Legacy is composed of (and write this down, budding mixologists): 40ml of 1788 Clos de Griffier Vieux Cognac, 20ml of 1770 Kummel Liqueur, 20ml of 1860 Dubb Orange Curacao and two dashes of Angostura Bitters from the 1900s.

We'll leave you to figure out what the mean age of Salvatore's Legacy is...although The Spirits Business does note that you'll be downing liqueur and cognac that harkens from the American Revolution and Captain Cook’s conquest of Australia.

The record comes just three months after Calabrese was left "heartbroken" when a bottle of 1788 cognac was accidentally toppled and destroyed by a patron at Calabrese’s Playboy Club. The 1788 is just one treasured specimen from Calabrese's extensive spirits collection, said to be worth over £1m in total.
