The celebratory collection at a glance, redolent with red, gold and black hues

Thomas Wee is back. The legendary designer, whose very name is synonymous with Singapore style, made an auspicious return to the fashion scene with a closed-door debut of a suitably red-tinged capsule collection at premium multi-label boutique Coda Co. at Scotts Square.

Gracing the glamorous cocktail soiree were an intimate group comprising friends of the designer and ladies-who-lunch, all decked out in their best. The man himself appeared fashionably late to hoots and cheers to present just six looks from the carefully curated ready-to-wear collection.

The movement and ease of this piece was absolutely stunning

Judging from the rapturous applause after the mini-show's conclusion, the outfits were a major hit, being supremely wearable, clean and deftly executed in Thomas Wee's signature use of the plushest fabrics - cotton organza, crepe and exquisite Shantung silk.

Savvily using a classic palette rich with deep crimson, stark white, boardroom-ready black and a surprising jolt of chartreuse as an accent hue on selected separates, this mix of statement pieces and polished day wear will doubtless go down well with his discerning clientele of well-heeled women.

Our particular favorite of the lot. We love the flash of gold running down the center of the jacket top - perfect for Lunar New Year visiting!

Explaining his new collection, Thomas Wee said he was “mostly inspired by the fifties for this Festive Collection. I love everything about the era, especially the femininity of the styles then."

Guests were encouraged to put down their fluts of Pol Roger bubbly to try on the various new looks with Thomas either personally measuring them or sketching new looks for clients on the spot. It was a rare time when clients actually got to be fitted and advised by the maestro himself!

"I am very proud that we are able to successfully introduce several new-to-market labels into Singapore," said Jeanna Chan, founder of Coda Co. and President of Ferrell International. "We are very happy to stock Thomas Wee within our fashion stable."

"He is a designer that is true to his own creativity. His precise cut and fit is second to none. To me, he is a trueperfectionist, constantly perfecting his craft through constant fine-tuning. Thomas is an inspiration for me!"
