Recently revealed at CES 2016, the Ehang 184 AAV is the safest, most eco-friendly and intelligent low altitude autonomous aerial vehicle. The one-seater drone aims to provide Medium-Short Distance communication and transportation solution. The Ehang 184 AAV is designed with full redundancy; this means that even if one set of the power system is operating abnormally, the vehicle can still operate a normal flight plan and ensure the safety of the passenger together with the vehicle. The 184 was designed with 100 percent “green” technology, and is powered only by electricity – so there’s no need for gas.
Four arms and eight propellers offer great lifting power and safety; even when one propeller malfunctions, it can still land in the nearest possible area safely. The 184 AAV has been embedded with Ehang’s fail safe system. If any component malfunctions or disconnects, the aircraft will immediately land in the nearest possible area to ensure the safety of its passenger. The communication is encrypted and each AAV has its own independent key.
The Ehang 184 AAV flies in an inverted U shape – meaning that it takes off and lands vertically – point to point direct flight is based on the altitude and latitude of the origin and termination point. Take Off/Landing points are landing targets pre-set with the Ehang Logo. The unique landing camera further assists to position the landing targets automatically and accurately.
The AAV is always connected online with the low-altitude command center. Based on the impressive achievements under its belt, Ehang is also building advanced low-altitude flight command centers which will locate its flying vehicles in the coming months. Although the AAV is reportedly thunderstorm-proof, the command center will prohibit the AAV from take-off during extreme weather condition for added precaution.
