Embraer Legacy 600

When Embraer launched its Legacy 600 aircraft in 2000, it was clearly meant to
spearhead the Brazilian company’s ambitions in the business jet segment. Mounting
a direct to challenge to Bombardier’s Challenger, the Legacy 600 has seen its profile
rise steadily since its maiden flight less than a year after its launch.
More than 170 Legacy 600 jets currently operate in 26 countries worldwide in both
Corporate Shuttle (with seating for up to 19) and Executive Jet (seating up to 15)
configurations. The plane is currently in service with the Indian Air Force, as
VIP transportation, and with Chinese oil firm China Sonangol International Holding.
In a bid to increase its presence in this region, Embraer recently organized exclusive
press showings in key Asian markets, including Hong Kong and Singapore. The Luxury-Insider.com
team was privileged to take to the skies aboard this sublime executive jet.
The experience shed light on the capabilities of the jet to make light of the
distances between all the major business centers of Southeast Asia from Singapore,
extending even to Greater China and India. Its maximum range of 3,400nm puts every
regional destination within easy, non-stop reach.
This super midsize jet offers a spacious cabin divided into three distinct areas.
The standard fixtures include leather seats, a divan, a credenza and large tables
for dining or meetings. An array of optional hardwoods, fabrics and finishes are
available from Embraer to complete the comfort factor of the Legacy.
Noise from the twin turbine Rolls-Royce AE 3007A1E jet engines hardly makes its
way into the cabin so one can enjoy the delights from the full wet galley in total
peace. Owners have the option of adding High-Speed Data (HSD) equipment and Wi-Fi
technology, which will enable them to work more efficiently while enroute to destinations.
Fully 6 feet in height, this cabin is actually one of the highlights of the Legacy
600 jet, alongside its unmatched fully accessible in-flight baggage compartment
(286 cu ft). The baggage compartment is accessed via the expansive lavatory. Moving
about throughout the cabin is just as comfortable as a stroll through the Waldorf-Astoria.
Well, not quite but people of average build will have no trouble navigating the
space.
In general, the entire Legacy range is an evolution of the ERJ-135 and ERJ-145
regional jetliner family but the basic airframe was modified and transformed into
an all-new aircraft. The changes include the addition of winglets and fuselage strakes,
underbelly and cargo compartment tanks, higher-rated turbofan engines, new fuel
systems, higher Maximum Mach Operation (MMO), the aforementioned main cabin and
advanced avionics suite (Honeywell Primus 1000 for the Legacy 600).
