Sheer mastery and the strength of co-creation unravels in The Macallan’s latest creation, Edition No.2, as it embodies seven handpicked cask types to highlight a meeting of different personalities.
The limited edition release marks the second of distillery’s Edition Series, as The Macallan journeys beyond the origins of the oak, whilst crafting the cask in the finest showcase of excellence and possibilities. The new creation marks a successful collaboration, not without the input of the distillery’s Master Whisky Maker Bob Dalgarno and culinary visionaries, Joan and Josep Roca. As co-founders of the twice-voted “best restaurant in the world” El Celler de Can Roca, the Roca brothers are known for seamlessly blending flavor and character.
Dalgarno describes the whisky as “a single malt that challenges expectations”.

“The driving force behind the Edition Series is the freedom we have to explore different and distinctive casks, some that might not typically be used in other Macallan whiskies,” says Dalgarno. “The harmony and balance of Edition No.2 reflects not only the hand selected casks but the relationship that we have been developing with Joan, Josep and Jordi over the last few years – it is a powerful collaboration and one that I have loved being part of.”
From the characteristic notes of rich, dried fruit in the European oak Tevasa casks by Bob Dalgarno to the Joan Roca’s selection of earthy notes of green wood and toffee from Diego Martin casks, a fascinating meeting of curiosity and empathy with the generous and passionate nature begins. A finishing touch of the complexities of allspice and ginger complements the notes of citrus and light vanilla with the vivacious American oak Vasyma butts and puncheons.
“Our shared values and passions with The Macallan are taken a step further with our Edition No. 2 collaboration,” says Josep. “Working with Bob to identify casks which reflect each of us personally was truly a unique magical experience.”
