Get your first peek at the Aston Martin AM-RB 001 Hypercar

Uncompromising in all respects, the AM-RB 001 is a completely bespoke machine from the tyres up. It is product of a unique Innovation Partnership between Aston Martin and the eminent F1 team. The ambitious and wholly extraordinary collaboration combines the vision and skills of the two, to create a road car the likes of which we have not seen before. Just look at the beast! Not a single straight line in sight. Real cars have curves…

Built around a lightweight carbon fibre structure, the AM-RB 001 boasts truly radical aerodynamics for unprecedented levels of downforce in a road-legal car. Yes, you read that right, it is meant to be road-legal. From experience, we normally conclude that cars that look as fantastical as this turn out to be just concept cars, with no plans to go into actual production. Thanks to the design expertise of Red Bull Racing’s Chief Technical Officer, Adrian Newey, much of the AM-RB 001’s downforce is generated through underfloor aerodynamics, leaving Marek Reichman (Aston Martin EVP and Chief Creative Officer) free to craft a pure yet breathtaking dramatic form that elegantly expresses both the AM-RB 001’s cutting-edge dynamism and the unmistakable essence of Aston Martin.

While boundary-pushing performance is clearly of paramount importance, so too is exceptional efficiency and packaging. Newey’s unrivaled knowledge has enabled the AM-RB 001 to be extremely light and compact, yet offer genuine comfort and space for driver and passenger and house a V12 engine.

The ground-breaking hypercar has received exceptional interest since its announcement at the Melbourne Grand Prix in March, resulting in unprecedented customer demand. Loyal collectors of the brand, owning models such as Lagonda Taraf, One-77 and Aston Martin Vulcan will receive priority when allocating the 150 road cars.

Each unit will be hand built in a purpose-built facility created specially for Aston Martin’s Special Projects. The British automobile titan has promised us more details of the AM-RB 001‘s technical specifications in due course. What we do know is that, at its heart is a new, mid-mounted, high-revving, naturally aspirated V12 engine with the potency to achieve a 1:1 power-to-weight ratio; 1 bhp per kilo of weight.

Continuing the on-going Innovation Partnership, the task of engineering the AM-RB 001 will be shared between Q by Aston Martin Advanced and Red Bull Advanced Technologies. Note: the total volume will be 150 road cars inclusive of all remaining prototypes and 25 track-only versions, with first deliveries commencing in 2019.
