Christian Louboutin's colourful collaboration with Indian Designer Sabyasachi

Christian Louboutin and Indian couture designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, have collaborated on an extremely limited edition capsule collection for both women and men. The collection features new and classic Louboutin styles that have been reinvented and hand-crafted using exquisite sari fabrics – all from Sabyasachi’s personal collection.

“Indian handicraft is the best of the best in the world. The luxuriance of Indian workmanship is at the maximum. I would love the world outside of India to love it as I do.” said Christian Louboutin in a news announcement on his site, regarding the new collection.

For men, Louboutin chose to revisit select iconic styles (above) from his collections. The Dandelion loafer received Sabyasachi’s magic touch with an embroidered toe-cap recalling traditional Indian wedding shoes while Louis Junior is transformed into an incredibly rich patchwork of motifs and colours.

Featured in the collection are nearly a dozen women’s shoe styles (below), including an exquisite thigh-high boot (bottom of page) crafted with delicate leather strips designed to harness and highlight the leg. Aptly named Tall and Deep, a very few pairs will be available worldwide as an exclusive, made-to-measure item.

The designers first collaborated in July 2015, when Louboutin conspired to create the extraordinary shoes that walked the runway of Sabyasachi’s annual couture show in Mumbai. And again in October 2016, with a small number of exquisite Louboutin handbags added to pair with the shoes.

"India has been at the heart of luxury since the age of the Maharajas," Sabyasachi said in a press release. "Working with Christian revisits that couture tradition, connecting our handicrafts with his eclectic point of view to create bespoke delights for cultural magpies."

The collection will only be available in-store at eight locations, including Bergdorf Goodman starting October 17 and the Christian Louboutin boutique in West Hollywood starting October 20. Moreover, to bring this collaboration to life, the two designers imagined the graphic novel, “Deep Sleep for Beauty,” which tells the story of a beautiful Indian actress cast under a spell from which only Louboutin and Sabyasachi have the ability to free her.
