Hainan Airlines Stewardesses Will Now Flaunt Glamorous Haute Couture Uniforms

For many airlines, the stewardess is more than someone who serves meals, drinks and ensures passenger safety up in the air, and is portrayed as someone elegant and graceful with stunning uniforms to match. Hainan Airlines has officially introduced haute couture uniforms to its crew, bringing incredible high fashion to the skies. The latest uniforms are part of Laurence Xu’s haute couture show at the Paris Couture Week earlier this month, showcasing a remarkable blend of Oriental tradition and Western influences. The fifth-generation uniforms were a result of in-depth talks and meetings between Xu and the airline, with more than a thousand design blueprints run through. The final archetype was after trying on and experimenting with a hundred samples of garments and accessories.

The Chinese cheongsam, a traditional dress worn typically on formal occasions like the Lunar New Year, is repurposed with touches of international influences. Oriental features are heavy in the uniforms, with patterns of the sea and mountains in the style of ancient Chinese paintings. The mythical bird Roc also appears as a strong motif, fusing the idea of strength and elegance. Xu Fei, brand director of Hainan Airlines remarked that the new uniforms symbolize an internationalized image of the airline.

“We would like to let passengers know that China is modern and trendy,” Xu said in a statement to the press.
