These US$2000 YSL Roller Skate Heels Prove That Fashion Is Not Always Practical

If you think roller-skating is hard and walking in high heels is daunting, then why wouldn't it make perfect sense to combine these two challenging things in one ultra-challenging hybrid? Yves Saint Laurent is doing exactly that, with their latest death-defying heels on wheels. Think of it as a luxurious take on the once-popular Heelys, with a devil-may-care bravado and a touch of haute couture.

The sky-high stilettos have at least a three-inch heel, with wheels attached at the bottom and two in front. For speed control, the brakes can be found at the front part of the shoes. Since creative director Anthony Vaccarello debuted his first campaign for the French luxury house in February with models in high-heeled roller skates, the roller skate-stilettos are now available for sale. Sans wheels, the shoes flaunt a bold aesthetic on its own, from embellishments like pearls, snakeskin and dazzling sequins. The fascinating heels will set you back around US$2,000, but if you are feeling a little more sensible, there is also a sneaker version at about US$1,200 a pop. But why stop at sensible?

Skating by in Saint Laurent’s latest creations is not exactly an impossible feat, however. In the Instagram video (above), watch Marawa Wamp glide by effortlessly in her heeled skates like a seasoned pro. Indeed, the nine-time Guinness World Record holder holds four world records in high-heeled skating, and makes the feat look perfectly simple – except that it is not.
