Rio’s Belmond Copacabana Palace Come Alive in Art and Light

The 2016 Summer Olympics is heating up in Rio de Janeiro, but that’s not the only thing to catch in Brazil.

On July 31, several art installations came alive at the Belmond Copacabana Palace, featuring a rather dramatized display of beautiful butterflies by way of light projections. The beautiful visual sees some butterflies, whose wings bear the flags of different countries, as they glide over the great façade of the city’s landmark beach-front art deco style hotel.

Inspired by nature and cartography, the stellar creation marks a fantastic collaboration between the acclaimed Kristjana S Williams, an award-winning Icelandic artist and the iconic hotel.

Needless to say, the exhibit embodies the coming together of nations, where cultural diversity flourishes amidst a moving motif – the butterfly, says Belmond, is a symbol of well-travelled journeys, hope and new beginnings.

If you’re lucky to catch the ten minutes in which the stunning display will run, and that is every night till August 14 at 7PM, the official hashtag for every moment captured is #DiscoverBelmond.

For guests at the hotel, the artistry doesn’t stop there. Look out for reception and concierge desks bearing ‘Rio Welcomes the World’ and ‘Belmond Map of the World’, which will be colored with illustrated maps and other beautiful, artistic displays.

Visitors to the hotel’s Pool-side restaurant and Piano Bar or Spa won’t miss out either, as the games’ all-inclusive spirit offers some special spa treatments or limited-edition celebratory cocktails in gold, silver and bronze.
