The British colonel spent more than three years hiding from the Japanese army in the wild Malayan jungles, before he made a grand escape from the award-winning Emerald Bay. He was eventually rescued with his compatriot, Major R. Broome, after they swam out in the sea in darkness.

The commemorative race will be flagged off by Chapman’s youngest son, Christopher Spencer Chapman. Pangkor Laut Resort is currently accepting registrations for the race at their website.
