5 Watches from Baselworld 2017 That Will Go well With A Suit

Jaquet Droz Loving Butterfly Automaton

Based on a historical design from one of Pierre Jaquet Droz’s legendary automata, the Loving Butterfly motif has been brought to life in the brand’s latest animated watch. 40 hand-engraved parts make up the cherub, butterfly and trees on a black dial (onyx for the red gold version, black mother-of-pearl for the white gold one), and the butterfly’s wings flutter 300 times over the course of two minutes.

Glashutte Original Senator Chronograph Panorama Date

In-house chronograph movements are a big deal, so it makes sense that when Glashutte Original released the Calibre 37-01 in 2014, it was housed in platinum and red gold. But the Senator Chronograph Panorama Date of this year is far more accessible now with a steel case and sportier dial complete with blue lume.

Bulgari Octo Finissimo Automatic

Overtaking Piaget in the race for slimness is Bulgari’s latest record-breaker, the Octo Finissimo Automatic. With a movement just 2.23mm thick and case at 5.15mm, it is now the world’s thinnest automatic watch. The in-house Caliber BVL 138 consists of approximately 130 parts, most of them in titanium, and a rotor made from platinum.

Breitling Navitimer Rattrapante

The rare split-seconds chronograph function finally makes its way into the Breitling family, which hasn’t seen one since the 1940s Duograph. Impressively, the new B03 movement is made in-house, is COSC-certified, operates at 4Hz and has a power reserve of 70 hours. Available in steel and 18k red gold, with the latter limited to 250 pieces.

Rado Hyperchrome Captain Cook

Refreshingly retro for Rado, the HyperChrome Captain Cook is inspired by a collection from the 1960s and named after 18th century British explorer Captain James Cook. The vintage case design is complemented by a box-shaped sapphire crystal, oversized indexes and a brown leather strap. The men’s models feature a black high-tech ceramic bezel while the women’s ones are decorated with diamonds.
