Forbes Ranks 3 Cambodian Beaches in Asian Top 22

Forbes has ranked three Cambodian beaches in Asia's top 22, highlighting the country's growing international appeal.

Recognition went to O'Tres Beach in Sihanoukville, Ream Beach in Prey Nop, and the sands of Koh Rong, an island 30 minutes off the Cambodian coast which is being developed as the region's first environmentally-planned, island resort.

Behind the project is The Royal Group, headed by prominent tycoon Kith Meng. The group have been granted a 99-year lease from the Cambodian government to develop the island.

International property firm CB Richard Ellis is advisor and sole agent, and Chairman, CBRE Thailand and Indochina, David Simister, said: "The main focus is on developers with plans for exclusive, environmentally sensitive tourism projects."

Forbes' winners stretched from New Zealand to China but Cambodia's results indicate a potentially bright future for the country and its beaches.

Whilst 2.16 million people visited Cambodia last year the majority visited Angkor Wat. Consequently only 7.7% of their tourists are coastal centric, compared with a sizeable majority in Thailand.
