John Lennon's Suit from Abbey Road LP for Auction

By William Stolerman

The white suit worn by John Lennon on the cover of the Beatles 'Abbey Road' LP is heading to auction.

The iconic, two-piece suit will be sold at Braswell Auction Galleries’ Annual New Year’s Day Auction, and is one of the most recognisable pieces of clothing from pop music history. Also up for grabs is the blazer worn by Lennon in a 1971 documentary about “Imagine” and a Chrysler station wagon from Lennon and Yoko Ono’s New York household.

Braswell’s owner Gary Braswell said: “Having property from John Lennon estate is a very special event, it’s exciting to be a part of it. The interest in the white suit, the “Imagine” jacket and the car transcend any kind of traditional category, we’re looking forward to collectors from all over the spectrum to participate”.

When the suit sold in 2005, it fetched $120,000.
