This Christmas, a truly fancy tipple comes your way at Harrods, London, in the form of the world’s oldest known cognac vintage from Courvoisier & Curlier. Dating from 1789, this 233-year-old cognac is on display at the Harrods wine shop’s tasting room and is going for ₤90,000.

Discovered in Dutch collector Bay van der Bunt’s vault – considered the world’s largest collection of old liquors – this vintage has inspired Harrods and Courvoisier (owned today by Beam Inc) to organize a public celebration in the run-up to the holidays.

The tasting room at Harrods is hosting the festivities, which includes L’Atelier de Courvoisier (where the public can discover the science and the art behind making cognac); a specially designed cocktail called The St. Helena (courtesy of Nathan Merriman of London’s The Club at The Ivy; a guided tasting of cognac by Courvoisier brand ambassador Rebecca Asseline; a food-pairing menu by the Harrods chef; and a tasting of the Courvoisier Succession J.S. with Courvoisier Master Blender Patrice Pinet. L'Atelier de Courvoisier is open to the public during the hours of 12pm-4pm Wednesday 5th, Thursday 6th and Saturday 8th December.
