Eskpade: Whimsical Creations by a Singapore Milliner

Eskpade: Whimsical Creations by a Singapore Milliner

Hats are the top draw on the runway this season. Introducing Eskpade by Kristine Hakim – a Singapore hatmaker – and her fashion-forward creations.

Indonesian-born, Singapore-based Kristine Hakim’s millinery atelier at Mandarin Gallery (#03-20). Started in 2012, it carries one-off headpieces handcrafted by Hakim, who studied under British couture milliner Judy Bentinck (a favourite among theatre and TV stars), and at famed Parisian embroidery school L’Ecole Lesage de Broderie. Every one of Hakim’s designs – mostly straw hats and fascinators – is whimsical and directional.

Take her latest collection “Glamour Dominatrix: Naughty Or Nice” ($450-$1,000), which would fit right into a Tim Walker editorial. Inspired by lingerie, the headpieces are covered in black lace, studs and tassels, complete with cheeky hand-embroidered phrases on the inside. Bespoke styles start from $300 and take at least two weeks to complete.
