House hunters rejoice, as yet another sprawling mansion hits the market. The owner is none other than convicted fraudster and former media mogul Conrad Black, who once boasted over 500 publications under his banner and was considered among the world’s most powerful figures. His fall from grace was fast and hard, however. In addition to serving time behind bars on charges for fraud and obstruction of justice, he was also stripped of his Order of Canada.

This enviable, highly sought after house stayed within a family for generations and is finally making its debut in the market after 65 years. The 23,000 square-foot, copper roofed mansion was built in six phases and lies on almost seven acres of land and has gone through a series of heavy renovations.

“It is a big house for two people. We will be abroad a good deal, and moving to a more manageable home will be a convenience to us now as our careers have evolved,” said Black.

Indeed, it is easy to get lost in the endless hallways of gorgeously decorated rooms, with 6 bedrooms, 9 full baths, 3 half baths and a 2 bed, 1.5 bath caretaker suite. There’s also an indoor pool, in case you want to take a dip in the middle of cold Canadian weather.

Its many entertainment rooms resonate with the memory of distinguished guests, including some members of the British royal family, as well as a bevy of notable stars of film and theatre. Former American president Richard Nixon as well as American diplomat and political scientist Henry Kissinger also join the prestigious guest list the mansion once hosted.

The Toronto mansion lies amidst a garden of elm, cherry and linden trees, on a winding driveway hidden in the secluded tranquility of the charming Bridle Path. And yet, the mansion, is not a far-flung dream isolated from the rest of the world – despite what its surroundings suggest. Instead, the mansion is a convenient fifteen minutes from downtown.
