Ethereal Elegance: Valentino Haute Couture SS16

Time is relative in this season’s Haute Couture collection for Valentino. A spectacular, ethereal elegance encapsulates the body, movement and beauty of each piece, as Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli envision a collection with a poetic touch. The body becomes the subject, guiding the female protagonist beyond the syncopated rhythms of fashion. Her thoughts and gestures are free as she trails barefoot along a path of lightness; her beauty subtle, elegant, and otherworldly. She symbolizes the legacy of Haute Couture; that it must live beyond in its retelling of long lasting values through the ages.

A vertical, airy approach captures the essence of the collection; sophisticated spirituality permeates the surfaces of tattered traces on velvets, handmade pleats, opulently woven patchworks and hand-painted volutes. The models grace down the runway with an unmistakable elegance. Each head is adorned with a gorgeous statement jewelry headpiece by Harumi Klossowska de Rola, for an added spirituality.

A tangibly tactile richness stems from an elaborate collaboration with the textile archive Fortuny, while kimono style coats and dragon patterned long robes channel 5th century Byzantine or 17th century Japonism. Fluid shapes speak of impalpable consistencies in overlapping tunics, pleated velvet Delphos and column dresses.

It’s a truly sensational collection where the Valentino Haute Couture embarks on a journey back to nature in a startling transformation, drawing energy from all directions – the absolute modernity, the mystical touches, and a rebellious disregard for structure and cultural obstacles.
