At almost £9,000, you could call it the world's most expensive cocktail – yet. Gigi's first went on sale in London back in 2014, and was reportedly not quite aimed at Mayfair region’s swankiest patrons, where properties are said to fetch at least £40million, but for a special commemoration.

Created especially for iconic singer-songwriter and actress Grace Jones, the drink was a way of the owners showing their appreciation for attending the opening of Gigi’s restaurant, with something ‘truly special’.

To create the 'liquid gold', a flute is filled with a vintage bottle of champagne from 1990 and an ultra-rare 1888 Samalens Vieille Relique Vintage Bas Armagnac, which would probably explain its price tag of £8,888. That’s pretty much the price you might pay for a new a Rolex Submariner. Of course, the glamorous drink wouldn’t be complete without some ‘lashings’ of gold leaf.

According to restaurant manager Cesare Papagna, the drink is not available from the menu and is instead from ‘discerning’ guests.

“The Gigi's isn't the kind of cocktail that you display on a blackboard,” said Papagna. “If you have to ask the price, you won't be able to afford it.”
