Whisky of the Year goes to Glenmorangie Signet

A single malt masterpiece by Glenmorangie was this year’s clear star at the prestigious International Whisky Competition. With an exceptional three points shy of a perfect 100, Glenmorangie Signet snagged this year’s Whisky of the Year with a grand total of 97 points.

Meanwhile, Master Distiller of the Year award went to Dr Bill Lumsden, with respect to Glenmorangie Signet’s new prestige. Dr. Lumsden oversees the crafting of Glenmorangie’s remarkable single malt at Scottish Highland.

“Glenmorangie Signet has a melting sweetness and explosive spiciness which is the culmination of our Distillery’s long heritage of craftsmanship,” said Dr Bill, Glenmorangie’s Director of Distilling, Whisky Creation & Whisky Stocks.

“These awards prove what we have always believed – that Glenmorangie Signet is a truly exceptional whisky,” he added.

Glenmorangie Signet represents all 170 years that the distillery has dedicated to crafting this masterpiece you’d come to recognize as the very essence of Glenmorangie, culminated in this perfection.

The distillery certainly lives up to its reputation for seamlessly bridging tradition and contemporary times, with this particular whiskey being the first to be crafted from high-roasted “chocolate” malt barley. Further, having been shaped from Glenmorangie’s mineral-rich spring water, the whiskey offers a rather silky texture to the spirit – creamy and fine.

Glenmorangie is no stranger to accolades, having clinched the Gold Outstanding award at last year’s competition. Their outstanding achievement of 97 points was after being judged against more than 160 whiskies by a tasting panel of ten experts. These whiskies were assessed against 15 criteria.

The whiskey offers an aromatic blend of coffee, chocolate and mint, layered with spice, fruits and dark treacle. The non-chill Glenmorangie Signet is filtered and bottled at 46% ABV. Expect rich sweetness against bitter mocha and spice, combined with a hint of orange peel, baked apricots and malt with finishing notes of lemon and fresh mint.
