The Macallan debuts Edition No.4

The whisky maker debuts a new limited-edition bottle to toast the opening of its £140m distillery

There’s perhaps no other industry that takes as much pride in making history as that of single malt whiskies. So when one of the pinnacles of the trade spends £140m in a new distillery, it’s an event akin to the moon landing in the industry.

Of course, to have completed such a daring feat is none other than multiple Guinness World Record–holder, The Macallan.

And to celebrate, it debut the Edition No. 4.

Like its predecessors, the limited-edition bottle reveals the exquisite aromas and flavours unique to The Macallan, thanks to their use of exceptional European and American oak casks.

Described to be “a celebration of The Macallan’s whisky making heritage” by master distiller Nick Savage, Edition No. 4 brims with rounded honey and sweet toffee aromas; intense bursts of nutmeg with wood spices on the palate; and a long-lasting fruity with oaky sweetness for the finish.

Taking inspirations from the mind-blowing structures of the new distillery and visitor’s centre, the fourth release embodies the craftsmanship, pioneering design and mastery of whisky making on the estate since its founding year in 1824.

The green bottle design pays homage to the lush Scottish fields that now make the roof of the new distillery.

The Macallan’s numbered editions have long been a collector’s item and a platform where the whisky maker can see its golden tipples through eyes of true masters.

The first edition, for instance, was the brainchild of its Master Whisky Maker Bob Delgarno and was revered for its richness and complexity. The subsequent launch was a collaboration with Spanish culinary geniuses and owners of the El Cellar de la Roca, the Roca Brothers. It was a drink dripping with Spanish cask intensities and one that was especially popular among sherry heads.

The most recent partnership was with master perfumer Roja Dove for Edition No. 3, which was made with the same formula he uses in perfumes, boasting aromatic compositions and eye-opening subtleties.
