Pharrell Williams’ Collaborative Song with LOUIS XIII only debuts in 2117

If you’re a fan of the multi Grammy Award-winning artist Pharrell Williams, you must be sorely disappointed that you weren’t invited to the once in a lifetime private listening party held in Shanghai on November 13, 2017. At the invite-only event, Pharrell presented a new song of his to a select group of exactly 100 lucky individuals. Unfortunately for the rest of us, the unique musical composition created by Pharrell in collaboration with LOUIS XIII Cognac will not be released until 2117.

LOUIS XIII partnered with Pharrell on “100 Years” – The Song We'll Only Hear If We Care (watch the promo video above) thanks to a shared concern for environmental issues. The original song is described as a creative expression of the delicate relationship between nature and time, and the effect humans have on their environment. However, there is a rather pertinent caveat concerning the release of the song in 2117. The exclusive track was recorded onto a record made of clay from the chalky soil of the Cognac region, and stored in the cellars of LOUIS XIII in a state-of-the-art safe (below) specially designed by Fichet-Bauche that is only destructible when submerged in water.

If sea levels continue to rise due to climate change, scientists project that in 100 years, a portion of the world’s land might be underwater. The only way to guarantee this original piece of music will be heard by Pharrell’s fans in 2117, one century from now, is if we address the consequences of global warming.

“I love the fact that LOUIS XIII thinks a century ahead”, said Pharrell in a press release. “We should all do the same for the planet. We have a common interest in preserving nature for the future. Each bottle is the life achievement of generations of men and women. It's all about legacy and transmission."

Pharrell isn’t the only visionary artist that LOUIS XIII has partnered with on a project that will only be release a century later. In 2015, LOUIS XIII partnered with renowned actor John Malkovich to create “100 Years: The Movie You Will Never See,” a thought-provoking artistic work that explores the relationship of past, present, and future.
