AOC and Porsche Design reveal a monitor that is nearly bezel-less

AOC has teamed up with legendary design house Studio F.A. Porsche to make two new FHD monitors that prioritize form and aesthetics above all else. The 24-inch PDS241 and 27-inch PDS271 both feature nearly bezel-less designs and a modern, asymmetrical stand, but their unique selling point is the lack of a hornet’s nest of cables coming out from the back.

Unfortunately, that’s not quite the result of some innovative design feature, and both Porsche Design monitors have achieved this by eschewing all the ports and connectors you’d usually find on a monitor and going with just a single HDMI port. The HDMI port and power connector are located on a separate breakout box that is connected to the monitor via a micro HDMI cable, so you’ll have just a single cable snaking out from the back.

Usability has been sacrificed for a sleeker look as well, and there’s just a single button for navigating the OSD settings. This means you’d have to repeatedly press the same button to change things like brightness, and selecting an option is done by not pushing the button for a few seconds. Design aside, this isn’t some ultra-premium monitor and the specifications are quite ordinary. The 24-inch and 27-inch models have a 1,920 x 1,080-pixel resolution, a 60Hz refresh rate, and a 4ms response time, so they’re clearly not intended for gaming either.

The 24-inch PDS241 costs US$199, while the 27-inch PDS271 costs US$249.

This isn't the first time that Porsche Design has put its name on IT gadgets, and it also has a hand in the Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design.
