Virgin America's $10,000 'First Class' Sneakers

Imagine the shoes of your wildest dreams. What are they like? Not one that is quite the tech trick pony, perhaps? While that is arguably not the dream of many, Virgin America has gone and designed a limited edition pair of sneakers that offers built-in screens, a Wi-Fi hotspot and a phone charger. The one-off trainers even has 'mood lighting', in case you ever need that from the comfort of your shoes.

Titled ‘First Class’ Sneakers, reportedly in reference to their First Class cabins, the shoes are described by Virgin America as 'a piece of historic aviation memorabilia'. The sneakers are conceived in collaboration with the Milan-based SearchnDesign, and have hit the eBay auctions with bids exceeding US$10,000.

Indeed, the First Class shoes are fashioned from the exact same leather used on Virgin America’s first-class seats. Even its stainless steel seat buckle is inspired by the aircraft.

The winner will have their new shoes delivered to them in a custom plexi-glass display case with LED lighting. Talk about futuristic! All proceeds will be donated to the non-profit Soles4Souls, an organization dedicated to fighting poverty through the distribution of shoes and clothing.
